How does wearing high heels “transform” the whole body and make legs look longer?

I have heard that when a woman wears heels, her whole body looks prettier. I have wondered how that works. Does raising the foot create a slimmer effect? Do the legs look longer as a result? I don’t think that I have noticed it myself.

It has a lot to do with proportions. Most people don’t notice the actual length of someones leg, they notice the proportion of the leg compared to body length. Adding a 4inch heel changes this proportion making the legs appear a lot longer in comparison to the body length.

Other factors are they way that it changes body position. Raising the heel off the ground causes the muscles and tendons at the back of the leg to shorten, particular the calf muscle (also will define the butt). The Achilles tendon slackens and moves toward the ankle and the calf muscle moves further up the leg. This has an effect of making the ankles appear thinner. Something thin always looks longer than something thick. Just try flexing the foot and seeing how the shape of the ankle changes.

Another effect is the blurring of the line where the foot starts and ankle ends. The front of the ankle is elongated and placed at a steep angle, causing the top of the foot to appear as part of the leg.

Also a narrow heel will give the illusion of length.
